Haleem

Quantity

Ingredients

1/2 kg  Wheat or corn grains
1500 Gms Mutton
2 Large  Onions
(Thinly sliced)
1 Table Sp Ginger
(Crushed)
1 Cup Gram lentils
(boiled)
1 Table Sp Garlic
(Crushed)
2 Tea Sp Garam masala
(Ground)
1 1/2 Table Sp Coriander powder
3 1/2 Ghee
2 Table Sp / To taste Red chili powder
A Pinch  Soda
1 Tea Sp Turmeric powder
1 Bunch  Fresh mint leaves
(finely chopped)
1 Bunch Fresh coriander
(finely chopped)
4 Average Lemons
(cut into quarters)
2 Cup Water
Few Green chili
(finely chopped)
To taste   Salt

Method:

Boil wheat or corn grains in lots of water and add little salt to it.  When the grains become soft, add a pinch of soda in it and cook for further15 minutes.  Heat ghee in a separate pan and put meat in the pan.  After few minutes add salt, red chili powder, Turmeric powder coriander powder, garlic onions and ONE-teaspoon garam masala.

Now mix the meat and grains together and stir continuously so they are mixed well.  Grind the lentils in a processor and while grinding add two cups of water to make it into paste.  Add this paste to the meat and grain mixture and cook for 30 to 40 minutes on medium heat.

When the haleem is cooked, pour it into a bowl and sprinkle ONE-teaspoon garam masala, fresh coriander and mint leaves (no sticks).  You may also want at this stage to sprinkle a little fried onion.
Note: you don’t always have to use grains; you can use vegetables or dalls instead of grains or even use mixture of everything.
