| General Pervez Musharraf was born on 11
august 1943 in Delhi (India). But
after partition his family choose to settle in Karachi.
He is form a well educated family.
General have also spent some time (1949 -1956) in turkey and can
speak some Turkish too. Chief
attended Saint Patrick’s high school, Karachi and Forman Christian
College, Lahore. He joined the Pakistan Military Academy in 1961 and in 1964 he was commissioned in an elite Artillery Regiment. He fought against Indian attack on Pakistan in 1965. He was fighting in Lahore and Sialkot sector as a young officer with a self propelled Artillery Regiment. He got married to Shaba Musharraf in 1968 and now he is grandfather
of lovely Mariam form daughter Ayla.
He is also father of son Bilal who is married and now a family
man. He also served in commandos for seven years and took part in war in 1971 against India. General Musharraf has the privilege of commanding two self-propelled Artillery Regiments. As a Brigadier, he had the distinction of commanding an Infantry Brigade as well as Armored Division Artillery. On promotion to the rank of Major General on 15th January 1991, he was given the command of an Infantry Division and later of a prestigious strike Corps as Lieutenant General on 21st October 1995. General Pervez Musharraf was promoted to the rank of General on 7th October 1998 and appointed Chief of Army Staff. On 12th October 1999 he took over the control of Pakistan and arrested Nawaz Sharif (Prime Minister of Pakistan at the time). He like sports especially squash, badminton and golf. He is an owner of straightforward personality and who can answer all media question without hesitation. On 30 April 2002, General Musharraf held referendum to remain in the power for further five years as the President of Pakistan. In this referendum the general was supported by 98% of the public.
